VSA’s Jeff Walker talks transforming the “raw concrete rectangle” of the Chicago office

Grid, a supplemental publication of the Chicago Sun-Times, documents the city’s thriving business and startup community, with a focus on innovation, technology and spaces. As part of a recurring feature on unique and well-designed offices, Grid reporter Meg Graham and photographer Sara Mays recently came to document VSA Partners’ Chicago office.

Over a tour of the office’s 55,000 sq. ft. space, Partner Jeff Walker described the main space and the Annex, which opened almost two years ago to provide more conference rooms, desks and common areas for meeting and eating. Revealing details that frequent visitors and even some employees may not know—the red paint color above the conference rooms is called “Rustique;” the carpet has the letters V, S and A hidden in its pattern—the article describes how the office’s raw industrial space is made complete with metal touches and warm furniture.

Grid placed a number of beautiful photos of the Chicago office online alongside a brief article. See the slideshow today, and follow Grid on Twitter for frequent news, updates and views into other inspiring Chicago offices.
