VSA recognized by Communication Arts

Communication Arts has announced the winners for their 56th Design Annual. VSA has been recognized for their Gene Siskel Film Center poster invitation.

The Film Center approached VSA to help design their annual invitation honoring actor Morgan Freeman. “We wanted the invitation to be elegant and impactful, just like the actor’s body of work. Morgan Freeman is one of the most recognized figures in American cinema, a film poster format seemed like a natural, it literally makes Morgan larger than life,” says Jamie Koval, client engagement, executive creative director for the piece. Along with Koval, the poster was designed by Brock Conrad, creative director, and Chris Marino, designer.

“We have received an overwhelmingly positive response on the invitation, [which] has exceeded all of our expectations,” says Jean de St. Aubin, Executive Director of the Gene Siskel Film Center. “As Chicago’s premier movie theater, it is important that our materials reflect the same high standard that we put into our film programming and presentation. VSA not only created a design that mirrors Morgan Freeman’s larger than life talent but also were extremely pleasant and organized to work with.”

Communication Arts is a print publication offering competitions, forums, feature articles and graphic design resources. The Design Annual is internationally known as one of the most noteworthy design competitions.
