IBM poster series recognized by Communication Arts Design Annual 55

VSA Partners’ poster series for IBM Workforce Enablement was recognized this week in the publication of the Design Annual 55, Communication Arts’ annual competition identifying the best in design across the world. The series, “IBM: Our Purpose, Values and Practices,” had previously been recognized in the Graphis Poster Annual 2015, published in July. The series was one of 15 winners in the poster category and one of 152 winners overall, out of 3,632 entries.

In March 2013, more than 250,000 IBM employees collaborated in a three-day brainstorm called the Client Experience Jam to identify nine practices, essential to their values in action. This by-IBM-for-IBM program needed tools and assets to help bring out the best in the company’s 400,000 employees around the world; as part of VSA’s work in developing and activating the program, IBM challenged VSA to create iconic visual representations of these nine practices.

The VSA team needed each poster to tell a compelling and purposeful story, in keeping with IBM’s belief in storytelling as a critical part of building culture, and be universally meaningful. The final versions deliver practices like “Think. Prepare. Rehearse,” “Put the client first” and “Dare to create original ideas” with a visual style apt for storytelling and striking the right emotional chord. The posters have been applied to digital experiences and office walls for IBMers around the world.
