An architectural powerhouse receives a robust new website with VSA’s help

An icon in global design and development, Skidmore, Owings & Merrill launched an immersive new website this month, featuring technology and programming by VSA Partners. VSA worked with the New York firm For Office Use Only, which led the site’s creative direction, strategy and design.

VSA brought technical expertise to the project and built all front-end templates, but the real work was in employing VSA’s proprietary content management system to allow the SOM team to manage and grow all future content. VSA’s platform was customized extensively to allow for automatic importing of all project data and images into the database, providing SOM every opportunity to manage their herculean online portfolio.

The portfolio is the site’s most impressive feature, and includes 1,100 projects from SOM’s past—including many of the tallest buildings in the world, like the new structures at One World Trade Center in New York. Also included is a 100-year vision to save the Great Lakes and the master plan for Chicago’s Lakeside, a 600-acre development on the city’s south side shoreline that will serve as a model for sustainable, mixed-use communities.

“We’re very happy we could partner with For Office Use Only to architect a system with a powerful back-end and stunning front-end,” said Louis Walch, Development Discipline Lead. “All of it frees up SOM to focus on their work, present their remarkable portfolio in clear, beautiful ways and keep up their reputation for excellence.”
