VSA's Content Practice provides brand and marketing audiences with meaningful content and communications that solve clients’ business problems. Across multiple forms, media and channels, we unite the art and engineering of content—strategizing, concepting, structuring, creating, adapting, publishing and measuring.


The Freelance Associate Director, Content Management leads content execution, working with writers, client reviewers, UX Architects and Developers to oversee every step of digital content development and migration. 


  • Assess a client’s content needs, goals, and resources.
  • Storytelling/framing/messaging
  • Content taxonomy/categorization
  • Content audits
  • Editing
  • Audit existing content sources, leveraging knowledge of the digital landscape and audience.
  • Provide a deep understanding of content and social analytics and be able to assess current content measurement benchmarks.
  • Lead innovation to meet internal and external goals and expectations, including definition and implementation of new services as needed.
  • Create an environment that fosters improving editorial and content standards.
  • Collaborate with Writing Discipline and Design Practice areas to guide the creation and application of content.
  • Ensure proactive content governance and maintenance processes to ensure consistency, timeliness, accuracy, and relevance.
  • Lead tracking, evaluating, and use performance metrics, based on KPI targets. May perform content audits, gap analyses, and content migration plans.
  • Understand a broad range of content publishing and management systems and be able to quickly adapt to technical requirements around content publishing.
  • Assist the Discipline Lead in mentoring and managing members of the Content Management Team and in developing and evolving the vision for the Content Strategy and Management offering at VSA.
  • Manage and mentor resources, including outside talent.
  • Corporate responsibility or nonprofit/social impact experience a major plus

  • Assist the Discipline Lead in scoping content management and supporting CEs in new business development.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.


  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred.
  • 7+ years of experience in leading the planning and development of content on a broad range of projects across multiple channels.
  • Experience in scoping and selling agency projects to clients, and be able to assist on writing proposals and pitch decks from a content perspective.
  • Experience with content management systems, digital asset management, databases and SEO best practices.
  • A digital thinker proficient in digital content, including web sites, social media, blogs and mobile/tablet applications.
  • Able to perform as a thought leader in how clients use meaningful content to enhance and extend brands, keeping up on trends and innovations in content strategy.
  • Knowledgeable in the content management process for large-scale digital solutions, including a high-level understanding of content management system technology and SEO.
  • Ability to be an organized, systematic, and strategic thinker.
  • Capable of keeping an eye on the big picture, as well as the details, to drive results.
  • Adept at preemptively identifying problems and devising solutions.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills to engage, persuade, and motivate clients, team members, and peers and to inspire collaboration.
  • A commitment to high quality work and to positive and productive relationships with all - clients, team members, peers, managers, etc.
  • Skills in complex problem solving, judgment, critical thinking and decision-making.
  • Ability to be versatile and handle multiple projects and re-prioritizations.
