OVERVIEW

You’ve cracked the code on code, as well as on managing a team and generally bringing digital to life—or should we say bringing life to digital? At VSA, our Technology Practice aims to create digital interfaces and experiences that transform interactions, elevate understanding and enhance value. And our ideal Director of Development will help us spearhead this mission, for both short- and long-term projects.

 

As that special mix of collaborative and independent, you shine behind the screen or in front of it, which is what makes you great at seeing, and leading, a project through to completion. Speaking of completion: “deadline,” “budget,” and “fire drill” are probably words you understand all too well, no matter how many other languages you know.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • You will oversee planning, concept development, solution architecture, development and deployment of multiple internal and client projects.
  • You will design, implement and oversee repeatable processes, best practices and code libraries that can be used to drive efficiency and innovation within VSA and for clients.
  • You will manage and mentor current staff…dare we say to help “develop” talent?
  • You will interview and train new recruits.
  • You will communicate with clients and other third parties including technical, marketing and executive stakeholders.
  • You will work with other internal disciplines (both technical and non-technical) to develop creative solutions to strategic challenges.
  • You will participate in business development activities, proposal development, and scoping of new projects; AKA high level stuff.
  • Perform some development and maintenance tasks as required.
  • You will ensure and maintain a consistent, high quality level of work for all assigned accounts (and we’re sure that won’t be problem for a high-quality, consistently talented person like you).

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 8+ years full-stack web development, including testing, implementation, integration, maintenance and debugging skills.
  • Demonstrated experience developing B2C and B2B web sites with a cross-functional team
  • Experience with server-side application or service development in Node, PHP, Python and/or Java the Hut
  • SQL and NoSQL Database experience
  • Demonstrated success in managing and mentoring teams, with 2+ years in a supervisory role
  • Experience with devops and continuous integration processes
  • Experience scoping, estimating and planning development projects
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills to engage, persuade, and motivate clients, team members, and peers and to inspire collaboration
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and to deal with ambiguity and constant change
  • A desire to meet and work with a bunch of really nice people who will help you make really nice and nice-looking work
